LOOK AWAY

9 September 2016

A poem about my anger and fear of being stared at all the time.

You look at me like I’m some kind of alien

The questions you ask are so inhuman

What do you think of me?

Do I really need to care?

What is it that I don’t see?

Is something stuck in my hair?

You look at me like I’m some kind of monster

Something you can catch and monitor

What is it that you think I am?

Is it something I should worry about?

What are you looking at, well I’ll be damned!

Get out of my face, do I have to shout?

You look at me like some experiment

Stop acting like that’s not what you meant

What is it that’s going on your mind?

Don’t bother me, don’t look at me!

Just look away, yes! I’m not your kind!

Just look away, don’t look at me!
